Applications
Mono ethylene glycol has been widely used as a solvent due to its unique chemical and physical properties, such as strong polarity, high boiling point, miscibility with water and a variety of organic solvents.
1. Mono ethylene glycol has the physical property of high boiling point (197 ℃), which can delay the volatilization rate in the mixed solvent and avoid the defects caused by the rapid drying of the coating or ink.
- Application in coating industry: It can be mixed with water or low boiling point solvent (such as ethanol) to adjust the drying time of paint film and improve the leveling property.
- Application in printing ink: It can be used as a drying retarder to prevent the nozzle of an inkjet printer from being blocked.
2. Mono ethylene glycol molecule contains two hydroxyl groups (-oh), which is a strong polar solvent. It can combine with polar substances (such as dyes, resins, cellulose, etc.) Through hydrogen bonding, destroy the interaction between solute molecules and promote their dissolution.
- Applied in the dye industry: can dissolve acid dyes, reactive dyes, etc., improve the uniformity of dyeing;
- Application in resin processing: It can dissolve epoxy resin, polyurethane, etc., and is used in the preparation of coatings or adhesives.
It should be stored separately from oxidants and acids, and should not be mixed. Due to strong hygroscopicity, it should be sealed for storage, and nitrogen should be used for long-term storage.
