2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH) is a high-purity, colorless liquid industrial alcohol with excellent solvency and low volatility. As a key intermediate, it is primarily used in the production of plasticizers such as DEHP and DINP, and serves as a solvent in coatings, inks, and adhesives. It also finds use in the synthesis of acrylate esters and other specialty chemicals.

1 Plasticizer Production
2-Ethylhexanol is primarily consumed as an intermediate for manufacturing plasticizers, especially phthalate esters such as DEHP/DOP and DINP. These plasticizers are widely used to soften PVC in wire and cable insulation, automotive parts, flooring, hoses, and construction materials.

2 Coatings & Adhesives
Esterification of 2-ethylhexanol with acrylic acid yields 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, a key monomer for pressure-sensitive adhesives, water-based paints, and industrial coatings. It also serves directly as a low-volatility solvent that improves flow and gloss in baking finishes and inks.

3 Fuel & Lubricant Additives
2-Ethylhexanol is converted into 2-ethylhexyl nitrate (2EHN), a diesel cetane number improver that enhances combustion efficiency. It is also used in the synthesis of lubricant oil additives and functional fluids such as hydraulic fluids and coolants.

4 Other Industrial Uses
Additional applications include surfactants, wetting agents, defoaming agents, mining chemicals, herbicide intermediates, and textile finishing compounds.
