According to the type of carbon atom connected to the hydroxyl group, it can be divided into primary alcohol, secondary alcohol and tertiary alcohol.
According to the types of hydrocarbon groups associated with hydroxyl group, it can be divided into fatty alcohols, alicyclic alcohols and aromatic alcohols. Fatty alcohols are divided into saturated alcohols and unsaturated alcohols according to whether the hydrocarbon group contains unsaturated bonds.
According to the different number of hydroxyl groups contained in the molecule, it can be divided into one alcohol, two alcohols and three alcohols. Alcohols containing two or more hydroxyl groups are collectively referred to as polyols.
Alcohols with hydroxyl groups attached to double-bonded carbon are called enols, which are generally unstable in structure and easily isomerized into stable carbonyl compounds.
