Ketones are compounds in which a carbonyl group is linked to two hydrocarbon groups. According to the different hydrocarbon groups in the molecule, ketones can be divided into fat ketones, alicyclic ketones, aromatic ketones or saturated ketones, unsaturated ketones. The carbonyl group of the aromatic ketone is directly connected to the aromatic ring. The carbonyl group embedded in the ring is called cycloketone. According to the number of carbonyl groups can be divided into one ketone, binary ketone and polyketone. Monoketones in which the carbonyl group is linked by two identical hydrocarbon groups are called monoketones, such as acetone (dimethyl ketone). Different ones are mixed ketones, such as acetophenone (phenylmethyl ketone). Ketone molecules can not form hydrogen bonds, its boiling point is lower than the corresponding alcohol, but the carbonyl oxygen can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, so the low carbon number ketones (low ketones) dissolve in water. In general, lower ketones are liquid and have a pleasant odor, while higher ketones (higher ketones) are solid.
